4th Bridlington Kite Festival: 18-19 May 2019
Sewerby Fields, Bridlington, N.Yorkshire YO15 1ER
with the Northern Kite Group
Gits Attending = Keith + Alan & Anne

Keith decided to make a "Grand Tour" of kite festivals, to celebrate his first year of freedom from work,
starting a week before Bridlington, 4 days R&R in Tewkesbury, then on to Margam on Friday 24th May

So he travelled North on Saturday 11th May, by way of Wetherby Services...
to the Lower Wensleydale Caravan And Motorhome Club Site, Leyburn just a short way from The Pheasant Inn

Obviously, being a seasoned Git, he immediately went in search of food and refreshment...

That takes care of the refreshment for an hour or two... now for food...

These look interesting... and it would be rude not to sample at least one of their pies...

Enough excitement for one day - early night and plan fun things for the morrow!

Sunday 12th May - time for a proper excursion - Whitby, Staithes and Saltburn

After a great many steps up, and even more steps down again... Whitby from the other side!

Captain Cook holds a position of honour here

I wonder if these lovely boots will help my little legs?

There's nothing so lovely as a nice stroll in the park...

Lovely view including Saltburn Cliff Tramway (water-powered funicular)

Proper engineering at Saltburn
Note the heavy duty braking mechanism & the radiator for chilly days!

Sunday evening - back on site - this chap might prove to be a noisy morning alarm call!

But if he does make too much noise too ruddy early, I think he would be delicious with wild garlic!
- and I would love to have one of his tail fathers for my hat!

Peaceful view through the skylight as the sun sank slowly in the West...

There sure are a lot of steps up and down in Yorkshire - time to rest those little legs!
Good Night All!

Monday 13th May - off to Morecambe!

But first.... time for a DIY FEB -since there is no Wetherspoons nearby!
(yes - I know the scrambled eggs are a bit pale - don't know why)

Had to stop and admire The Ribblehead Viaduct

Just time for a proper Viaduct Selfie...

Then on to admire "The Ship" in Half Moon Bay, Heysham

Finally reached Morecambe to meet up with two old friends...

Let's try that again!

Tuesday 14th May
First stop Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England, for a spot of FEB

Lovely drive - shame about the roadkill carnage!

Swaledale today! High Force, Middle Force & Low Force

Tuesday dinner after a busy and tiring day, but well worth it!

Wednesday 15th May - Lots of hairpin bends!
Aysgarth falls, upper, middle & lower. Ingleton waterfalls, Pecca, Hollybush Spout, Thornton Force,
Beexley, Baxengyll Gorge and Snow Falls. Malham, Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janets Foss.

Water, water everywhere and not a toilet in sight!

The Money Tree, Swilla Glen near Ingleton Falls

and still more wet stuff

Thursday 16th May - Rendezvous with Alan & Anne at the Bridlington festival site

Well... Keith got there on schedule... no sign of Alan & Anne, and the sun is going down...

Never mind - time for a bit of shopping, and a bite to eat!

Nice view here at Sewerby Fields - but no sign of Alan!

It's getting dark - and I'm all alone...

Alan! Anne! Where are you???

10:45pm - they think they might be at Flamborough Head...

24:00hrs - The Eagle has landed!
Let's hope nobody nicks his nice shiny, brand new quad bike and trailer before we can fit wheel clamps & a GPS tracker!

Friday 17th May - Can you see the repair? On the gazebo - not the knotty serpent!

Today has been pretty quiet, with pretty purple things to admire!

Saturday 18th May
I'm ready!

This morning's view

Norra Lorra wind heareabouts... (translation = Notta Lotta)

Git Camp (middle of photo), complete with Git Gazebo, Absent Friends Bench and Git Banners.

Some old friends seem to have found a good place to sit and natter...

A bit of wind showed up around lunchtime...

Just about enough wind at last

That's better - A few more now

Congratulations to Graham Lockwood for putting on a great display of "One Man Three Kites" in very tricky winds.

After all that strenuous exercise, a healthy & hearty dinner!
(likely to be followed by several medicinal G&Ts)

Anne prepared the salad, Keith cooked the Scottish beef burgers & Aunt Bessie chunky chips

Sunday 19th May - we had hoped for a spell of decent kite-flying weather... this was 9:00am

Meanwhile 28 miles to the North, at Robin Hood's Bay, looking South, it's apocalyptic!

and this was 1:00pm at Sewerby - Boring!

REMEMBER - The Ship Inn serves food only from 12:00noon to 5:00pm on a Sunday!

Monday 20th May - off to Tewkesbury Abbey Caravan Site - making our way gradually
down to Neath, Port Talbot for the Margam Kite Festival next weekend 24-27 May
- so that's about 200 miles today, relax for 3 days, then about 100 miles to Margam

What a lovely place for an evening stroll down to the chippy...
