Height ASL: metres - CAA Limit: 60 metres
Location: Kite flyers tend to use the field with the rugby pitches, as it has the best wind.
The pitches lay between the Sheen Gate and Roehampton Gate (N.E.) entrances. There is a road which runs along side the field.
Directions: By public transport it is a hike from any train station. Richmond town centre would take forever.
Mortlake BR is probably the closest. come out of Mortlake Station, walk up Sheen Lane toward East Sheen and Upper Richmond Road.
Go straight across the lights and keep going on that Road and you will reach Sheen Gate.
Once inside go straight on until you reach the mini roundabout and the pitches are on the left.
Parking: There is plenty of free parking. the best spot is to enter the park via Roehampton Gate and turn left where there is a large car park.
To get to the field from the car park you walk across the road, cross the stream via the bridge to your right and the field is in front of you.
Facilities: There is a hut cafe in the car park that does hot & cold food and drinks. I can recomend the fry up!
There are other facilities around the park and in Sheen. Pembroke Lodge is located near the Richmond Gate.
Big house with great views although food is a bit pricey and a bit of a let down (Sunday roast available).
Accessibility: Run by the Royal Parks. Accessibility seems good, although a walk over grass to get to field from car park.
Flying Area: Area is covered by around 6 rugby pitches side by side. grass is short with some rough grass at the bottom end.
There are normally a number of traction kites and mountain boarders about. There always seems to be enough room even when Rugby is in progress.
Comments: The park is open from 7am in summer and 7.30am in winter, and closes at dusk all year round.
