A Jolly Day Out: Friday 31 July 2020
After many weeks of lockdown, self isolation and shielding, the Gits felt the urgent need for Jollity
and where better to enjoy ourselves than our favourite field "Somewhere in Cliddesden"

Gits Attending = Keith, Dicky & Alan C, Andrew & Sandra, Alan & Anne O

But first.... what do Gits need before frolicking in the grass? Full English Breakfast!
and where do Gits go for a yummy breakfast in Basingstoke at 9:00am on a Friday morning?
to The Cafe Dome, Brighton Hill Parade, Basingstoke RG22 4EH - Website

This friendly little place is right next door to Asda - so perfect for FEB and a bit of shopping before play time!
it is a Community Café staffed by volunteers and students with learning difficulties - more info HERE

With the prospect of lunch at the Jolly Farmer later in the day, most appetites were curbed (a bit)

It was all very nice, with OJ while we waited for food to be cooked, and tea & coffee to wash it down,
then we meandered off in the direction of Cliddesden after an hour and a half...

Ooo-errr... we never saw the grass (and a plethora of other wild plants) quite so tall ever before....
Our good friend Alison (and Megan of course) must have been busy scattering those wild flower seeds!

Finally... (time-keeping on a leisure day is never a Git's strong point)...
A Socially Distanced Convoy arrived, and banners were unfurled...

Oz, Canada and Texas were soon fluttering bravely in the fresh Sou'Westerly breeze!

We remarked on the abundance of Hayley's NHS banners all around the village

Andrew looked very relaxed, flying the Scott's lovely Morgan Mega Delta,
with Keith's purple Delta Serpent, and Alan C's blue one for company

The wind was the usual "Cliddesden Variable" variety, complete with occasional downdraft for added excitement
Dicky managed to fly his precious Butterfly kite - only managed one "group photo" before a near miss caused a scare!

Andrew put up the Scott's Alicja Szalska kite, which decided to fly at a jaunty angle, before diving into the walnut tree!
Naturally, International Kite Rescue Team was on hand with roach poles to retrieve it unharmed!

Minkey seemed glad to get an airing - how long had he been stifled in Keith's Man Bag?

It was a scorchio hot day, with the sun close to burning the back of Dicky's lily-white legs!
Many thanks to Anne Outram, for an endless supply of cold drinks, cherries and strawberries to keep us going until lunchtime

We had a table booked for 2:00pm at the Jolly Farmer for lunch, and to find a bit of respite from the roasting sun!
We were disappointed to find the usual pathway from flying field to Jolly Farmer was gone.
It seems the land has been sold, and is liable to "development" - which may be a sign of things to come...

Keith was very keen to find a glass of foaming amber nectar, while waiting for his "Leaning Tower of Liver & Bacon"

All the food was very tasty - we were very pleased to see the Jolly Farmer has made a great comeback.
We are delighted to give a big "Thumbs Up" to Kevin, the new chef and Jill, our friendly waitress.
Let's hope we can come back again later this year, for OSOW and the Gits Xmas Bash!

  NEWSFLASH
The Jolly Farmer now has a new Facebook page HERE with Fred the landlord's phone number!

Just as we were finishing, Hayley & Martin strolled by for a chat, and later Roy & Jess stopped neaby for a natter.

Altogether a lovely day, doing what we love best with lovely people - Perfick!

This is Keith's lovely photo of "Sunset over Epsom" - let's hope we have many more days like this...
