Keith & David P arrived early on Friday morning... brave of them, given the impending weather forecast!
Maybe the sight of a rainbow over the Jollyup field gave them hope for better things...

and of course a decent FEB is always good for morale!

Dodgy weather was in the forefront of everbody's mind, with Storm Callum's imminent arrival!
The surprisingly sensible decision was taken to leave the putting up of Git Gazebos until Saturday morning
Campers and caravans were also arranged in a defensive circle, in case of attack by Indians...

But... come Saturday morning...
Keith could not resist trying to put the canopy onto one of the gazebo frames on his own...
We were all impressed by his later re-enactment of that (possibly unwise) decision...
Strong wind + large canopy + small hairy person = recipe for U.F.G. (Unidentified Flying Git)

Luckily he seems to have got away with it - his excuse for not calling David P to help was tenuous...
"I didn't want to be faced with the sight of him stood in his caravan doorway in his underpants!"

That was a lucky start to what could have been his very last birthday celebration!
With heavy rain and strong winds expected (45mph) it seemed sensible to use battery powered lights,
rather than risk using Lil Genny - so we just had a lamp in each gazebo, and a floodlight over the BBQ

Despite the wind and rain, it was a warm day (up to 24°C) a warm evening, and a warm night!

The evening was wet and windless, so the only Git who managed to get a kite up was Roy Martin - well done sir!

Given the poor night flying conditions, there was only one thing left to do...
Help Keith celebrate his 65th Birthday

Let there be cake, and a bountiful supply of gin... and tonic... and ice... and lemons

Keith's giant "Bulldog" gin glass somehow managed to keep up with demand...

OSOW: Sunday 14 October 2018 - DAYTIME ONLY
In The Kite Field, between the M3 and Southlea, Cliddesden, Basingstke RG25 2JL

Given that it had been raining all night - sometimes very heavily - the only kite to be seen on the field
was Keith's Purple Serpent lying in its own very large puddle - and it was not about to leave the ground!

The morning was spent in typical Git fashion... First of all an enormous FEB
4 people somehow managed to eat rations for 8 (some of us would pay for that later...)
Then the ceremony of taking down the three 12 volt lights, and pouring the water out of the storage boxes.
Keith ended up taking both sodden gazebo canopies (and gusset) to hang up in his workshop to dry.
Dicky took all the wet electrics home to dry them out with a mountain of loo roll, hairdryer and a good squirt of WD40

Last to leave the field were Keith, David P (who stayed in case anybody needed a tow-off by Grunt) and Dicky.
They managed to padlock the gate and raise both barriers despite them being under water and the locks full of mud.

Sincere thanks to Don Baggett for the kind donation of a Tosh Satellite laptop, and a Fujitsu desktop PC
These will be cleared down and set up for use by residents of Bluebells Children's Hospice, or their outreach clients.
