Friday 6 October 2017

First things first, a bit of Friday afternoon chaos putting up the Git Gazebo...

Memo:- it helps to use the tape template and line up one side with the door to Anne's kitchen!

Then a bit of a rest, and a few calming beers before the evening's strenuous activities
when the Gits descended on The Bounty Inn, to check it out prior to the GOG Xmas Bash

Decent ale then moules with chorizo - yep - that'll do nicely!

So who exactly was in the Git Hit Squad that Friday night?
Clearly, anybody under the age of 50 in this array is Bounty staff, or just humouring Keith!

Then they all caught a minibus (taxi) back to the Jollyup field to try out the Turdis
before collapsing into sundry snoring heaps to await sunrise and an al fresco FEB

Light Up The Sky: Saturday 7 October 2017

It's clearly Feeding time at the Git Gazebo - all hands on deck for the GOG FEB

Apparently not a lot else happened during daylight hours - apart from a few calming beers
and a bit of fettling... the Gits were probably saving themselves for nocturnal shenanagins!
Bob is always ready & willing to help!

Dicky arrived in the afternoon - replete with gin, tonic, advocaat, mudslide stuff & nibbles
This is how he found things... "All Quiet In The Git Gazebo"

Nick was very brave and travelled from Bristol by train with his bike - laden with kite gear
including two lovely new angels in shimmery red material...

6:00pm - BBQ fired up - and fire pit needs the attention of an expert... well Dave T anyway...

Hungry Gits move camp to the bottom of the field.... Do be careful boys!

Some of the more hardy Gits preferred to sit near the firepit and get kippered...

Others (nominally more sensible) chose to stay inside the marquee

Feed him a few ales, show him a pole, and what does he do....?

When it got a bit nippy after dark, the "upcycled" washing machine drum did sterling service!

Only Bob could manage to pose like this and still show panache (or something)
The second image shows the Gits Secret Weapon being prepared (roasted)

Umm... not much happening here - needs to be cooked a bit longer...

Time for Keith to refuel the rocket stove!

That's more like it! Bob has clearly trained as a Whirling Dervish!

Here follow Dicky's attempts to edit Keith's Mega Movie Clip into bite-sized chunks
21MB and 27MB (try them in full screen mode, with the sound turned high!)

Bob's Smashing Finale! (25MB)

Dicky's experiments with LED illuminated Carp windsocks Koinobori were less successful,
using a standard string of ten 5mm cool white LEDs powered by 2 AA alkaline cells.

The 10 LEDs in the large 1.5m blue carp are barely visible (no LEDs in green fish)

My Belgian friend Steve Goudeseune uses 3 AA cells which look lots brighter than my 2 cells
- tests show that 2 AA cells only give 4mA per LED, but 3 AA give 6mA and is about 50% brighter
- I will make another prototype with 3 cells, maybe 4 cells, and compare the results!

One Sky One World: Sunday 8 October 2017

You know the routine by now... after sundry confusions, misdirections & expletives, it's FEB time

Well done Nick - lovely train of 25 OSOW kites!

Most of us were a bit too busy to take photos - assembling, flying & packing kites away to keep them off the wet grass, as well as rushing around transporting lights, huge battery & generator (for the Bonfire Bash) and being helpful where needed.

If anybody has a photo of John Mack's Papillon kite (inherited from Les Reed) it was great to see that in the sky after a bit of tweaking.

Keith & Bob wore themselves out trying to get Keith's purple Serpent to stay in the sky, so it would have a chance to dry out - maybe then he will be able to sort out its knotty tail!!!

Highlights of the weekend for dicky (who always aims low)...
1. Discovering the whereabouts of a missing disco light (in Keith's van)
2. Finding a bottle of Kahlua at Asda Basingstoke (after scouring many shops fruitlessly)
3. Successfully advising a certain party about the best way to go through a gate (before locking it)
4. Managing to help at least one person tweak a precious kite so it flew properly
5. Managing to fly a total of 5 kites on Sunday and getting them more or less dry before going home
6. Finding a dry pair of socks to replace those completely soaked by the wet grass
7. Learning that not everybody of adult age knows how to use a Kazoo!
