Don't worry, Keith - "what happens in Fanø, stays in Fanø!" Sunday 14th - First Fanø Sunset Monday 15th - Walking back after a windy walk along the beach Nice to see Glenn sampling the local cuisine - "Pommes Frites Med Mayonnaise" Monday night - Axel says it's a bit nippy - so he needs a hottie - Awww! I guess others will be taking medicinal anti-freeze 'just in case' Then Axel took 'proper poorly' and had to go home early - very sad! Purple Polar bear over Fano - lilla flyvende bjørn på Fanø Tuesday 16th - It's not all kite flying up here, you know! Minkey stands guard while the Gits prepare for an early night (eh?) - with beer of course! Wednesday 17th - Time to explore the local shops - some strange stuff & some useful! For some reason, one particular name sprang to mind when we saw this! Lunchtime - and yesterday's chips had metamorphosed into something very scary... Good Luck with that!!! Back at the bungalow for a little power nap - it turned all moist outside But then it cleared up again! And we went out to play... managed a bit of KAP... Played with our bols... and even managed a jolly group photo! and when we'd had enough of that it was back to the bungalow for drinkies! Thursday 18th - Anniversary of Waterloo - Early morning message from Keith:- Day 5 Fano. It's not raining and the weather looks promising. A big thank you to all the wonderful kite flyers that I have met and those that I have been reacquainted with, for making my first few days in Fano so memorable. There is something about this place, time has no relevance, my internal clock doesn't know where it is, but it doesn't matter here, there is no schedule, no time table, it's just about the kite flying and making the most of those opportunities, when the weather permits. Yesterday we drove along the beach and hardly saw a soul, but once the sunshine came out the beach exploded with kite flying activity. It felt good to be amongst such a wonderful group of people, thank you. Manni Haug took some great photos - thanks Manni! What the heck are they doing? They call it Inbusschlüsselweitwurf... (Throwing The Allen Key) Slight mishap when our Purple Powerhouse had a go - to quote the man "Well - it weighed 4.8 kilos!!!" Keith & Christian went exploring... Friday 19th - It looks as if they are having a "Pinkland Day" Facebook Page But no pink elephants to be found! This shot borrowed from Fanø FB Album It was quite windy! Keith needed help to keep Linda up - and then his peacock feather blew away... Luckily Christian was able to run & catch it - and didn't spill a drop of beer when he went down! What a beautiful place! HOORAY!!! Keith sent this as proof he remembered to give a kite book to Dick Toonen, for Patrik Koppen And what better way to spend Friday evening than a few drinks with friends? Keith tries to keep up with everything happening at Fanø... - but he's no spring chicken and needs a nap now & then... Saturday 20th - Early Sunshine and blue skies over Fanø, let's get down on the beach Where is everybody? Keith had the sky to himself - and he went all the way... and captured this beautiful KAP vista Then back to the bungalow for Danish Brekkers - Dansk Morgenmad Meanwhile, somewhere in Britain... Sandra & Andrew enjoyed a proper FEB Saturday afternoon - The view from the dunes Minkey made a new friend - Ape Leinenaffe - He's even got his own Facebook Page! Ralf Beutnagel took some great photos - see his Facebook Album HERE More splendid photos by Rainer Kregovski HERE Saturday evening at the auction - they've gone almost teetotal!!! Sunday 21st June = Summer Solstice = The Longest Day Just enough wind to fly Taranis, so it had to be done! Facebook Album by Gayle:- Taranis Over Fanø Taranis Ground Crew in action - the more the merrier! All done - final inspection - looks good Just before the launch - Absolutely NO WIND! Not even a teaser breeze! Run Christian - RUUUUUUUUUNNN!!! . . . and up He goes - Majestic! Well Done Christian! - but you do look totally knackered my friend! There was just time to pack up Taranis and toast the successful Fanø Mission with Advocaat! Although.... a little birdy tells me it was not ALL down to CBP muscle-power... Then we catch the ferry and drive to Hamburg.... at Warp Factor 10! ... to pick up a hire car for Gayle & Christian (touring Europe for a bit) - got stuck near the Flughaven in terrible traffic jam with roads closed! We were sorry to miss the Midsummer's Day Bonfire (shades of 'The Wicker Man') Monday 22nd June - visited Lutz & Lotte - very emotional - The Grumpy Old Gits have been given a very nice present Louisa, we said we would fly her everywhere and think of Lotte and Lutz - Feeling very honoured Glenn took some photos of Lutz's workshop and kite collection... it's all for sale For a complete list of items for sale, please see this PDF File For prices & availability, contact Klaus (a good friend of theirs) at Klaus.Koeppe(at)online.de Bye-bye France . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hello England - Glenn can have a decent cup of tea at last! That's it - the adventure is over - tonight we sleep in our own beds - Hooray! 1742.7miles, two train rides, two ferry rides, countless toilet breaks, trying to sleep in a car seat, wind in our faces, rain on our heads, sunshine in our faces, so many empty bottles, that we had to put them in so many bins, so as not to fill the rubbish bins, enough road works to last a lifetime and did I mention the road closures? Sand, sand and more sand, I'm certain I'll never get it all out of the van or the kites, ever, driving round and around Hamburg airport, getting lost too many times to mention and then not listening to Glenn, the Nagivator (tee-hee), but I would do it all again and again and again, to experience the wonderful atmosphere in Fanø, there is nowhere quite like it. the people, the kites, the wind and the huge expanse of drivable beach. Sincere thanks to all at Fanø who looked after us and made us feel welcome.
