Berrington Hall: 18-19 July 2015
Full details HERE
The Assembled Gits plan to arrive on site at 5.00pm on Friday 17th July
(the earliest time they are allowed on site)
Presumably this will be after an early start so they can fit in a FEB at Dockle Farm, Swindon,
and later a major shopping spree at Asda Hereford, for essential (mostly liquid) supplies.

FRIDAY - First priority was to set up Git Camp, ready for an evening meal in the marquee.

Git Camp looked splendid, and formed the nucleus of a whole "kite village"

The calves & sheep kindly left their meadow muffins at a distance from the camping area.

Sincere thanks to Sandra Scott for providing a plentiful and very welcome Smörgåsbord
(cold meats, pies, salad and yummy things) for all comers on the Friday Night

We stuffed ourselves silly, then topped up with giant fairy cakes courtesy of Anne Outram
all washed down with a diverse assortment of drinkies - not ALL of which were alcoholic!
We made our own entertainment with some random music, and a poetry reading by Mr Scott...

Saturday - It was like watching a lion stalking an unwary antelope...
All day, Karl Longbottom kept flaunting this voluptuous purple kite...
We all knew there could only be one end to the story....
even though the victim was clearly in denial...

Andrew & Sandra also took delivery of their new "Day of The Dead" skull kite
it is so big they did not dare launch it until sunset when the winds calmed down a bit
Designed by Sandra Scott + Made By Paul Morgan

Airheads did very well to entertain the public in difficult winds

Saturday Night - Bill Souten arranged for a massive "Indian Takeaway" curry night
These kind ladies leapt into action to dish up - funny how nobody offered to help wash up!

(there was lots left - even after the gannets helped themselves to seconds and thirds)

- the phrase "Go on, have another bhaji!" haunted my dreams that night...

Sunday - International Kite Rescue sprang into action several times today...
First to rescue Peter's flowform from the top of the tallest tree there - needed a large rok,
with carabiners to slide up the flying line - much applause when the drogue finally pulled free.

That impressed Bill Souten so much that he awarded the Gits a "Berrington Certificate"

Then we spotted a pretty striped tail 10 metres up another tree (but no kite)
which needed 2 x 9 metre poles and Keith's patent grappling hook gaffer-taped to the tip,
manfully manipulated by "Big Andrew" when Keith could not quite reach...

Later in the day, Keith & Alan wanted to show our new friend David Pengelly how to bung bears
- which led to Minkey parachuting into a tree, Video Here (61.4MB) and Polar Bear also got in a tree-tangle!

CONGRATULATIONS & WELL DONE!
to Bill Souten for excellent organisation, logistics & signage
We managed to get him to sit still for a minute on our "Absent Friends" Bench

- which is all you need for a great weekend - no timetable, no bossing about, no stress...

Sunday 11.00am - "EVERYBODY - GROUP PHOTO!!!" - and hold on tight to your kites
& banners in the gusty wind! - Click the image below for a large version (4600 x 2400)

Keith, Alan and Peter had to depart by Sunday tea-time
Sunday night, with only a few hard-core visitors left, the four remaining Gits
found their way to a most excellent Italian Restaurant in Leominster, for a farewell meal.

There was talk of visiting the Titan Zip Wire in Snowdonia, after Berrington...
only the longest, fastest zip wire ride in Europe... Video here
But everybody was too weary for that, after a weekend of sometimes strenuous activity!

Now it's just a matter of rest & recuperation before the Jollyup in 2 weeks time!
